In the course of time, KPS has drawn upon their skillset to provide clients with Commissioning Services, Problem Solving, Constructability Reviews, and Asset Management among other items.

 

Commissioning

All water and wastewater projects involve extensive electrical instrumentation and controls (EI&C) of process, mechanical, and electrical systems within the operating facility. Bringing these systems online requires careful execution and validation often referred to as Commissioning. Equipment validation and commissioning is completed on all pieces of equipment within these facilities from systems to sub-systems, into each individual instrument or piece of equipment.

Our KPS team has over 28 years of commissioning experience of these systems that include but are not limited to the following:

  • Network communications,

  • HVAC systems,

  • Process Equipment Systems for Water/Wastewater Treatment,

  • Pipeline Testing,

  • Electrical Systems, 

  • Control Systems (PLC’s)

We have participated in Commissioning as witnesses verifying completion, agents representing general contractors, and writers of Commissioning Plans for various clientele.

Commissioning a project and bringing it all together as one working system is by far one of our favorite parts of the project. To us, the most important part of any project we are involved with is that it works, and this is the part where we get to prove that is happening.

Problem Solving

Problem Solving is in our DNA, and we love to help where we can. Yes, this is a broad-brush statement, but it couldn’t be truer.

After 28 years of heavy civil construction on water and wastewater facilities only, we have learned a lot from the School of Hard Knocks, and we continue to learn to this day. This knowledge allows us to be a resource to our clients, colleagues, and friends.

One day while working in the office, we responded immediately to a call that took us from Stratford to Barrie where we entered isolated wastewater channels inspecting flow isolation issues. After an afternoon on site and a couple of phone calls we helped the City source a new valve and selected an alternate location for installation.  

This is the kind of troubleshooting we enjoy being part of.

Constructability Review

It’s not uncommon to experience changes during construction, and these are often learned by either encountering an issue with what the contract is calling for, or by finding a more efficient way of constructing. Through our experience we have gained enough firsthand experience with this, that we have become a resource to various clients who would like to complete a review before going to tender.

Constructability Reviews completed by our team result in savings to clients when issues are realized and resolved before going to tender. The level of effort depends on our client’s needs by looking at projects from a high level, or by diving into more specific details with colleagues in the industry.

Asset Management Inventory

Utilizing our construction knowledge of typical water and wastewater treatment systems, we have completed Asset Management for municipal clients looking to gain additional information about each of their systems and forecast future maintenance budgeting. 

We take inventory of all elements, for example, from the bottom of a wet well to the room HVAC Thermostats, document this data into spreadsheets, and go out to local vendors for current supply and installation pricing.  

Project Management

It’s impossible for us to have this extensive construction site experience and not learn from it how to manage a project effectively and efficiently to success. We tackle on-site issues head on and stay focused until closed with the constant objective of delivering all projects considering time and budget.

Project Estimates

Through experience in our industry, we have developed a full understanding of construction and the costs associated with most major trades within the Water and Wastewater industry. When tasked with developing an Opinion of Construction Estimate, we provide every level of detail required for our clients to understand the build in more detail and the associated costs.
